National level recognition for service to the local Veteran community.

University of Michigan SVA Distinguished Achievement Award

The University of Michigan Student Veterans Association has given out three Distinguished Achievement Awards in its history. Dr. Fretz received his at the 2020 Benefit Dinner. Matt Bernath also added his “Champion” award belt!

Issued by Huron Trails District, Southern Shores Council, Boy Scouts of America – June 2015

For distinguished service as Membership Chairman on District Committee and Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 8.

Bronze Star Medal (no V)

Issued by United States Navy – January 2009

Highest career military award. Submitted by the U.S. Army for meritorious service in a combat zone, and approved by U.S. Navy for service while under enemy fire (Navy requirement). For service with Multi-National Corps – Iraq on and around the Victory Base complex, including leading a team of 75 volunteers in the construction of a 10 acre Scout Camp on an Iraqi special forces base and developing and leading a Boy Scout and Girl Guide troop of 100 Iraqi children from on and around the base.
